What’s on the iPod?

Zamfir - Master of the Pan FluteThat’s right! Zamfir, Master of the Pan Flute! I just haven’t been able to get enough of this guy ever since the first time I saw his infomercial way back in the 80’s! Nothing says romance quite like a guy gently blowing into a series of small tubes glued together, right? … huh?

Ok – not really.

What’s really on the iPod right now is a new (to me) PodCast called Radio Lab. Described this way, “Radio Lab is an investigation. Each episode is a patchwork of people, sounds, stories and experiences centered around One Big Idea. On Radio Lab, science bumps into culture…information sounds like music.

Radio Lab is designed for listeners who demand skepticism but appreciate wonder, who are curious about the world but who also want to be moved and surprised.

Like many Americans, I first heard about Radio Lab from another PodCast of my favorite NPR show, This American Life. Host Ira Glass used an excerpt from an episode & for the week after it was the single most downloaded PodCast on iTunes. That’s power, huh? But honestly, it’s a really great show & I am enjoying it immensely. Check it out at radiolab.org.

  1. Yeah, I have Zamfir on my iPod, too! Are we twins? Anyway, my Dad always liked Zamfir. It reminded him of his Romanian heritage, I guess. And he tended to like that sweetly saccharine kind of thing. I looked down my nose at it and now . . . . . hahaha! I like it, too!
